PDVCCA calls RMSA agitation a fight for justice, not protest

PHEK, SEPTEMBER 16 (MExN): The Phek District Village Council Chairman’s Association (PDVCCA) on Tuesday extended its support to the agitating RMSA-2016 teachers and urged the Nagaland government to immediately implement the court order on their scale pay, warning that prolonged neglect would severely impact the state’s education system.

In a statement issued by its media cell, PDVCCA described the RMSA-2016 teachers as “qualified, trained professionals selected through rigorous examinations and interviews,” who form a critical backbone of government schools, especially in rural and underprivileged areas.

It expressed concern that the teachers, instead of being in classrooms, have been forced onto the streets to demand “job security, dignity, and career protection” in line with directives from the Gauhati High Court and Supreme Court of India.

The Association criticised the state government’s “No Work, No Pay” order against the agitating teachers, calling it “dehumanizing” and “a direct attack on the future of education in the state.” It also alleged that while the government protects backdoor appointments made without transparency or merit, it has refused to acknowledge the rightful place of RMSA teachers.

“Silence in times of injustice is complicity,” the statement said, warning that if the agitation prolongs, students’ education and the stability of the school system will be at grave risk.

The PDVCCA cautioned the education department to act with responsibility and resolve the issue without delay. “If this crisis continues, it is the government and the department that will bear sole responsibility for the breakdown of our school system and the shattered future of both teachers and students alike,” it stated.

Calling the agitation “not a protest, but a call for justice,” the PDVCCA urged all Naga associations, organisations, and societies to extend support to the RMSA-2016 teachers in their “fight for justice for the sake of the young Naga generation.”
