Peren DC holds census awareness meeting with tribal bodies, CSOs

Peren, June 11 (MExN): The Deputy Commissioner (DC) of Peren convened a Census Awareness Meeting with apex tribal hohos and civil society organisations (CSOs) of the district on June 10 at the DC’s Conference Hall, Peren, in preparation for the upcoming Census 2027 operations.

Representatives from various organisations attended the meeting, including the Nagaland Zeliang People Organisation, Kuki Inpi Nagaland, Zeliangrong Baudi, Zeliangrong Mipui Organisation, Zeliangrong Youth Organisation, Zeliangrong Students' Union, Zeliang Women Organisation, Zeliang Youth Organisation, Zeliang Students' Union, Kuki Nute Kiloikhom and Kuki Students' Organisation.

Chairing the meeting, DC Peren Hiazu Meru highlighted the significance of the census exercise and stressed the need for accurate and authentic data collection. He informed that 46 supervisors and 250 enumerators, along with reserve personnel, have been designated to conduct the census operation in the district.

The DC urged citizens to ensure that no individual is left out during the enumeration process and called upon tribal leaders and civil society organisations to actively support census officials. He emphasised the importance of close cooperation between the public and census functionaries for the successful implementation of the exercise.

SDO (Civil) Peren, Sentilong Ozukum, delivered a detailed PowerPoint presentation on Census 2027, outlining the history and evolution of census operations in India. He informed participants that the forthcoming census will be conducted digitally for the first time, marking a significant milestone in the country's census administration.

He further explained that the Self-Enumeration Portal under the House Listing Operation (HLO) will remain active from June 16 to June 30, 2026, during which citizens can register and complete self-enumeration by responding to the prescribed questionnaires.

The meeting also witnessed extensive discussions and interactions, during which participants deliberated on various concerns and suggestions related to the census exercise.

Concluding the meeting, the Deputy Commissioner appealed to tribal hohos and civil society organisations to intensify public awareness efforts and encourage people to extend full cooperation to census personnel to ensure the success of Census 2027.
