Over 1,200 Sites planned in NE-II Circle

In a major push for digital connectivity, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate more than 97,500 BSNL 4G mobile towers across India on September 27 from Jharsuguda, Odisha. The rollout includes over 92,600 commissioned sites, among them 997 in the NE-II Circle states of Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland and Manipur.
Announcing this in Dimapur, BSNL NE-II Circle Chief General Manager N Muralisaid the project is part of a Rs 37,000 crore initiative built entirely with indigenous technology. The 4G towers are solar-powered, making them India’s largest cluster of green telecom sites and a step forward in sustainable infrastructure.
He described the initiative as not only a BSNL achievement but “an international technological breakthrough,” placing India among only five countries worldwide with the capability to build and deploy a complete mobile-network stack.
Under the Digital Bharat Nidhi (DBN), 18,900 sites nationwide will connect around 26,700 unconnected villages in remote and border areas, serving over 2 million subscribers.
In the NE-II Circle, 1,238 sitesare being funded to cover 1,729 villages, including 421 in Nagaland, 982 in Arunachal Pradesh and 380 in Manipur. An additional 731 sitesare also planned. In Nagaland alone, 190 sites covering 230 villages are already on-air, Murali informed.
BSNL, which celebrates itsSilver Jubilee this year, currently holds a 10.3% market share in the NE-II Circle with 3,169 mobile BTSs and 177 FTTH OLTEs. The company aims to extend 4G to all villages, strengthen FTTH connectivity for Gram Panchayats, and ensure reliable OFC links to every district headquarters.
