Power Dept engineers appeal for cooperation from public and govt

DIMAPUR, APRIL 4 (MExN): The Association of Power Engineers Nagaland(APEN) today called for cooperation from the public and the government to ensure smooth maintenance of power supply in the State.

“During the ongoing total lock down when people are staying at home or working from homes, our field Officers and staff are out there in the line of duty to make power available at all the critical locations like hospitals, quarantine centers, banks, communication services, fuel depots, media and to all the households,” a press release from the APEN stated.

“We assure that our work force will be there to deliver the service during the challenging period ahead of us,” it stated.

It meanwhile pointed out that with the onset of stormy/ windy season there is likelihood of power disruption due to collapse of poles and fallen trees on the power lines. It informed that the department has put its workforce on high alert for quick response to such incidents. It asked the public to inform the department’s control rooms if such incidents are observed.

The association also informed that with the arrival of warm season, load demand in the plains has increased and the transformers and lines are attaining full load in these areas.

It therefore urged the people to use power judiciously in order to avoid overloading the system.

To the law enforcing agencies, the APEN asked the police and volunteers not to obstruct movements of the Power Department’s workforce on duty and urged the public to cooperate with the field officers and staff “which will go a long way in boosting the morale of our workforce who are no less vulnerable to the COVID-19 contagion.”

It meanwhile expressed gratitude to the Advisor for Power, Tovihoto Ayemi for donating sanitizers, face masks and hand washes to the department. The APEN also thanked retired Chief Engineers of the Department—Er SI Longkumer, Er DA Shishak, Er K Miachieo, Er Imlikumzuk Ao, Er G Chishi, Er Khose Sale, Er Rokozhalie Angami, Er Keviletuo Yiese, and Er KK Awomi for donating cash to purchase sanitizers and face masks.
