Medziphema, January 19 (MExN): A two-day training programme for progressive farmers on establishment of ‘vegetable seed nursery’ was conducted at Agrozonex Orchard, Umsning under Ri-bhoi district of Meghalaya from January 13 to 14.

The programme was organised by the Central Institute of Horticulture, Medziphema under Department of Agriculture, Co-operation and Farmers Welfare, Ministry of Agriculture, in collaboration with Fosse Holdings (P) Ltd., India and Kyrdemkulai Farmers Producer Organization, Meghalaya.

According to a press release received on Tuesday, the objective of the programme was to provide insight into the activities of the CIH and basic technical guidance on various technologies related to raising vegetable nurseries. 

The programme commenced with a welcome address and a brief remark about the training which was delivered by Shiv Anjan Dalmia of Fosse Holdings (P) Ltd, India. The resource persons from the institute; Marina and Mhasizotuo, Senior Technical Assistant, CIH provided training through slide presentations and interactive question and answer sessions. 

The farmers were briefed on the topics such as concept and advantages of nursery management, types of nursery raising, soil and site selection, bed preparation, seed and soil treatment, aftercare, intercultural operations, and manuring etc. 

Three sessions of training were conducted in 2 days whereby each training session was followed by distribution of vegetable seed kit packets to each participant and interaction session between the technical experts and participants. A total of 50 participants attended the training programme, the release stated.
