•-The recent demand of the Naga Student’s Federation (NSF) to cancel all backdoor appointments in the power department is a welcome step. But at the same time, it also raises lots of questions about the integrity and transparency of the students’ body. Backdoor appointments are not only an issue of the power department alone but such cases are also found in other major departments. Why is the NSF silent on these departments? Have they got any vested interest in targeting some particular department or particular group of people?
The recent disclosure made through media by concerned citizens clearly pointed out anomalies and backdoor appointments in the departments of education (SCERT), PHED and Women development department. Have the NSF ever thought about the more than 30 such backdoor appointments in these departments? If there is a thorough probe, more skeletons would tumble out and the truth behind these appointments would come out. Is the NSF knowingly trying to avoid these departments?
The way they have been adamant on a particular department and particular people, while ignoring the powerful and influential people involved in other departments does not auger well when it comes to the NSF’s concern for finding employments to the much need unemployed youths of the state. It is appreciated that the appointments to the government departments should be done through the NPSC, but the same yardsticks should be applied in all government departments.
It is also surprising to note that the concerned minister of social welfare has appointed his wife as DWO and his PS as CDPO. It this not a blatant misuse of powers and flouting of rules? Will the NSF react on this too?
We hope that the students body take note of all these revelations and make amends to their strategies to cleanse the existing system of corrupt practices.
