Regional workshop on technical edu underway

Kohima, April 8 (MExN): The 4th regional workshop on technical education for directors and principals of North-Eastern States got underway here at Hotel Vivor Saturday under the theme “Challenges in achieving excellence through accreditation in polytechnics of north eastern states.”  

Addressing the inaugural function on Saturday, minister for higher & technical education Temjen Imna Along stressed on the need to train people in the right way so they ‘grow to become nation builders.’  

Temjen expressed apprehension that India as a nation might not be able to compete with other nations ‘if we fail to train our technical students in the right way.’ “If we are not able to train our people in the field of polytechnics in the right way, then somewhere, we are going wrong,” he said and emphasized that a time has come to build a future where ‘our economic, cultural, and social strategies have to be put into place.’  

On Sunday, the technical session touched on challenges in achieving excellence through accreditation in polytechnics of north eastern states, implementation issues for accreditation, pathway to build excellence in technical education etc.  

The workshop to go on till April 9 is hosted by department of technical education, Government of Nagaland and sponsored by National Institute of Technical Teachers’ Training and Research (NITTTR) Kolkata. On April 9, the workshop to be held at Puliebadze, Jotsoma will touch on employability issues in technical education, current trends in technical education. The workshop will come out with some recommendations. Valedictory function has been scheduled at 15:30 hours.
