KOHIMA, SEPTEMBER 21 (MExN): A resting shed at Sishunu village and a multi-purpose court at Zisunyu village were inaugurated on Saturday under Batch-IV villages of the Nagaland Forest Management Project (NFMP). The facilities were constructed as part of the project’s Entry Point Activity (EPA).

Dr Sevono Seletsu, Divisional Forest Officer and DMU Head, Kohima, who inaugurated the projects, said Sishunu was fortunate to receive such infrastructure and urged villagers to maintain the facilities with care. She noted that the resting shed would serve as a place of comfort and peace for families mourning the loss of their loved ones. Expressing happiness over the unity shown by the Village Council and Joint Forest Management Committee (JFMC), she said their collaboration was instrumental in making the project a reality.

Sishunu Village Council Chairman, Joel Kath, said the resting shed was of great significance as it addressed a common need. He expressed confidence that the community would preserve the facility for many years, undertaking future renovations as required. The village GB also conveyed gratitude for the project, noting that the resting shed near the cemetery was not only a present necessity but also an asset for future generations.

At Zisunyu, Dr Seletsu said the completion of the multi-purpose court marked the achievement of one of NFMP’s EPA goals. Built with standardized planning and design, she said the facility was a collaborative effort dedicated to community welfare. She called upon villagers to maintain the court and enhance its utility, adding that it would also benefit neighbouring villages by fostering sportsmanship and unity through sports.

Zisunyu Village Council Chairman,  Solo Semp, said Naga youth had long struggled due to the absence of proper sports facilities, limiting their ability to compete at higher levels. He said the new court had given fresh hope to the youth, enabling them to grow and compete.

JFMC Chairman, Sonyelo Semp, said the project fulfilled a long-cherished dream of the village youth and credited the Village Council’s encouragement and contributions in making the facility a reality.
