Rev L Suohie Mhasi passed away today at a private hospital in Kohima and was laid to rest at his native Rüsoma village under Kohima district. He was 98.
A politician, preacher as well a social commentator, the nonagenarian was undergoing treatment at Oking Hospital Kohima and died around 11: 00 am.
Late Rev Mhasi participated in the first general election in Nagaland in 1964 and got elected by resigned enmasse in the same year.
He was president of Angami Tribal Council in 1958. In 1966, he joined Church Ministry in ABCC and served in charge the mission field for ten years. He was instrumental in hosting Billy Graham Kohima Crusade in 1972. He served as secretary of Nagaland Peace Council in 1974.
Later, among others, he served as the Pastor of CRC in his village. He also published four books and his commentaries on varied issues are regularly published on local dailies.
