Dimapur, December 27 (MExN): The NSCN/GPRN led by Gen (Retd) Niki Sumi on Sunday refuted reports that the group was heading for surrender.
Reacting to ‘one national news channel’ in particular, the group through its MIP termed the report as ‘unfounded and unauthenticated’ information. “The reportage has been done without knowing even an iota of truth,” it said and rejected the same.
The group also condemned the news channel and other media houses propagating ‘malicious news’ which is detrimental to the peace process.
It further affirmed its stand and commitment for the Naga Political rights till the time they achieve the same.
The Gen Niki Sumi-led NSCN/GPRN stated that, on invitation from the Government of India (GoI), it established contact in order to revive the ceasefire and added that it “should not be misconstrued in any way as a sign of surrender or giving up Naga political rights.”
Earlier on December 23, the group had announced its decision to ‘revive’ the ceasefire agreement with the GoI which it had abrogated unilaterally in March 2015.
Gen (retd) Niki Sumi had expressed hope that the GoI would respond positively and honor its decision “as a confidence building measure in the larger interests of peace in Nagaland and Naga people in general.”
