Dr. Sutanu Behuria, Union Secretary for Heavy Industries, Government of India today said that the central government has approved the revival package of the Tuli Paper Mill and work has already started on the draft revival scheme.

Talking to media persons here this afternoon after meeting Nagaland Chief Secretary, Alemtemshi Jamir and other officials; Dr. Behuria said that various related issues like roads, railways, transportation, power, water supply and training of personnel were discussed to ensure that the Tuli Paper Mill starts working soon and remains sustainable.

He said that this revival scheme would be submitted to the Board for Industrial and Financial Reconstruction and IDBI bank, which will examine it and then have a round of discussions. “Once that approval is finally received, only then the money will be released,” he informed, adding that the process will take some time in terms of procurement of machineries and reorganization of raw materials. Hopefully it will start working very soon, he said.

On issues of security, he stated that the Chief Secretary assured that security would be taken care of. On the question of posting personnel, he added that they had issued advertisements twice to select people but added that there are no candidates willing to go there.

If anyone is willing to come there and work as general manager we will be happy to consider, he added.

The Secretary also informed that the Tuli Paper Mill would continue to remain a subsidiary of the Hindustan paper Corporation, which is owned by the GOI. “The Sate Government instead of 5% equity, will increase its equity contribution to 10% and majority equity would remain with the Corporation,” he said.

He also mentioned that the Nagaland Chief Secretary had met him when he last visited Delhi, to chalk out ways to work together and to actively ensure that the mill is revived and sustained. He informed that discussions were also held for the mill to continue for years to come and also to consider expansion at some stage. The Union Secretary was accompanied by CMD, HPC M.V Narsihma Rao.
