RTI Week 2026 observed in Noklak

The Nagaland Information Commission (NIC) in collaboration with the District Administration, Noklak, observed the RTI Week 2026 at the White Hall, Noklak Village, on October 8.  The purpose of the programme was to give awareness of the Right to Information (RTI) Act and it's role in ensuring transparency and accountability in governance..

Kevisa Kense, IAS (Retd.), Chief Information Commissioner, Nagaland, in his short speech, highlighted that the RTI Act was enacted to bring transparency and accountability in governance. He also raised concerns over the misuse of the Act, stating that some activists have been using RTI applications for personal gains rather than public interest.

He further highlighted instances where village councils and local bodies have enforced pressure on applicants to withdraw RTI applications. He stressed that while the RTI Act should be used responsibly and for its intended purpose, applicants must also be allowed to exercise their right to information without undue pressure or interference.

A PowerPoint presentation on the RTI Act was delivered by Worhonthung Ezung, Deputy Secretary, covering important aspects of the legislation and its implementation.

The programme also featured an interaction with participants to raise questions and clarify issues relating to the RTI Act.

The program was was attended by Heads of Departments (HoDs), PIOs, APIOs, representatives of civil society organisations, village councils and students.

Earlier , the programme was chaired by P. Mono Khiamniungan, NCS, Deputy Commissioner,  keynote address by Y.P. Chillio Khiam, State Information Commissioner, Nagaland, and vote of thanks by Joseph Hesso, IPS (Retd.), State Information Commissioner, Nagaland.
