SAMETI conducts IPM training for ATMA functionaries

Medziphema , April 21 (MExN): The State Agricultural Management and Extension Training Institute (SAMETI) conducted a three-day training programme on “Integrated Pest Management (IPM) in Agricultural and Horticultural Crops” for ATMA functionaries from April 15 to 17.

According to a press release, the inaugural session was chaired by Deputy Project Director SAMETI, Tiajungla Longchar. In his address, Director SAMETI and Principal IETC, Bodevi Shuya, highlighted the importance of IPM in agricultural practices and encouraged participants to actively engage in the training and disseminate the knowledge among farmers.

The training featured resource persons including Dr Waluniba, Assistant Professor, and Dr Hijam Shila Devi, Associate Professor from the Department of Entomology, NU: SAS Medziphema; Dr Sable Mangesh Gajanan, Assistant Plant Protection Officer; and Rameshwar Telangre, Plant Protection Officer from the Central Integrated Pest Management Centre (CIPMC), Directorate of Plant Protection, Quarantine & Storage, Ministry of Agriculture & Farmers Welfare.

Sessions covered crop-specific IPM practices in horticultural and agronomical crops, bio-control programmes, pest surveillance, and agro-ecosystem monitoring. Participants also attended practical sessions on the National Pest Surveillance System (NPSS).

Field visits were conducted to the Insect Museum, Department of Entomology; Disease Museum, Department of Plant Pathology; and the Institutional Museum at NU: SAS Medziphema.

The valedictory session was chaired by Tiajungla Longchar, while Bodevi Shuya delivered the concluding remarks.

Certificates were distributed to the participants, with a total of 27 ATMA functionaries attending the training, informed a press release from the institute.
