SC no to Hindu minority status PIL

New Delhi, November 11 (IANS): The Supreme court on Friday asked a PIL petitioner seeking that Hindus be declared as minority community inb8 states to approach the National Commission for Minorities (NCM). The bench headed by Justice Ranjan Gogoi permitted PIL petitioner and BJP leader Ashwini Kumar Upadhyay to withdraw his petition and approach the NCM. Upadhyay has referred to a December 18, 1992 resolution of the UN General Assembly and a judgment of the top court to back his plea seeking that Hindus be declared minority in the 8 states - J&K, Punjab (with 38% of the population), Lakshdweep (2.5%), Mizoram (2.75 %), Nagaland (8.75%), Meghalaya (11.5%), Manipur (31%) and Arunachal Pradesh (29%)
