A total of five schools from Kiphire district attended a workshop on Legal Literacy Club for schools at the conference hall of the Deputy Commissioner here on April 17. It was organized by the Kiphire District Legal Services Authority (DLSA).
In the keynote address, Secretary of Kiphire DLSA and Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM) Kiphire, Kano Nokshei asked the students present to spread legal awareness as many do not know the legal rights. He further encouraged them not only to listen, but act on what they learn whenever needed and help especially the illiterate and poor.
“One should not only learn about the rights but should also know the responsibility to let the society become just and balanced,” Kano exhorted.
He also touched on various rights of an individual. As a student, he stated, one should know the importance of legal literacy and therefore encouraged the students who have joined the club to learn sincerely and be an ambassador of legal awareness campaign in school, neighborhood and to the family and friends as well.
In the technical session, resource person Kethovelu Resu, Project Assistant, Legal Literacy Club, Nagaland State Legal Services Authority (NSLSA) spoke on various rights of an individual and also RTE awareness, Prohibition of Child Marriage Act, Environment Act, Road Safety Act, and Dowry Prohibition Act etc.
Temsu Walling, who is also project in charge, Legal Literacy Club, NSLSA touched on fundamental duties and also highlighted the various acts which an individual should know.
Sentila, Assistant Public Prosecutor (APP) Kiphire welcomed the gathering.
