A workshop programme on “Sensitization on role of public service broadcaster in election coverage” was held here today at Hotel Japfu with Sentiyanger Imchen, IAS, Chief Electoral Officer Nagaland as the chief guest and Manikant Thakur, AD, DAVP, New Delhi & former editor-in-charge, New Services Division, New Delhi as resource person.
Speaking on the occasion, CEO Nagaland said that it is very essential that the media and particularly the public broadcasters like All India Radio (AIR) and DDK play a very unbiased role.

In this, he called upon the AIR and DDK to use their network to provide correct information to the public.
Stating that the Election Commission of India is undertaking Systematic Voters’ Education And Electoral Participation (SVEEP) programme to educate the people on elections and to encourage the people to come to vote, he requested AIR and DDK to provide maximum coverage in this area.
Imchem also called upon the media to ensure that the information they provide is correct, adding that wrong report would amount to damaging certain people.
He also stated that during election time, it is important for all of us to be unbiased and the reports should not favour any party or person.
