Kohima | September 28
The third day of the protest called by the All Nagaland Adhoc Teachers' Group - 2015 who are demanding service regularization, passed off peacefully at the Civil Secretariat, Kohima.
Extending its solidarity to the group, the Northern Angami Youth Organisation (NAYO) visited the teachers today.
In a statement, NAYO expressed disheartenment for the teachers who are being made to suffer 'due to the discrepancies and lopsided' attitude of the government and the education department.
"We are totally against the directives of the government, when the teachers are struggling to fight for a genuine cause. They have been threatened with dire consequences of disciplinary actions in a democratic set up instead of being placated or their grievances being addressed," stated NAYO President Roko Angami.
When all necessary procedures have been done to validate their services, NAYO questioned as to why the government of the day is trying to subjugate the very rights of the teachers. Terming the attitude of the government and the department as 'arrogant and callous', it went on to comment that the government is depriving the students of basic education by not heeding to the just and rightful cause of the ANATG.
NAYO also stated the government should be held totally accountable adding, "We will not sit still when the very foundation of our children's education is being threatened."
Meanwhile, with no response from the government or department, the ANATG will continue its peaceful protest which began on September 26.
State Cabinet to be blamed, says RPP
Meanwhile, the Rising People’s Party issued a statement supporting the demand put up by the ANATG, stating “It’s not surprising that the state’s dirtiest department is giving all sorts of excuses.”
“The Principal Director, DoSE (Department of School Education), should not shoot his mouth nor mislead the Cabinet without knowing the facts. In the ACAUT/PSAN litigation filed before the High Court, case no 145 (K) 2017, Grade-III Adhoc teachers were not impleaded in the case. The litigation only pertained to those posts falling under the purview of NPSC which were filled up through backdoor, that is, without examination being conducted,” it stated in the press release.
To bolster its point, the RPP explained that teachers are appointed under a separate recruitment policy (with requisite qualification) which is not under the purview of NPSC examination, “and therefore to label all the agitating teachers as backdoor appointees is unfair, and hurtful.”
“The contradictory stand of the NDPP-BJP Coalition on matters of regularization only shows lack of good counsel and indecisiveness of the Cabinet,” it went to state, while adding that 2290 RMSA and SSA teachers of 2010 and 2013 batches were absorbed/regularized just recently in September, which means that their salary is now wholly paid by the state government.
“So should the DoSE have 2 separate regularization policies? Shouldn’t the Advisor for School Education publicly address the contradictions?” the RPP questioned.
The NDPP-BJP Coalition should stop victimizing the 1166 teachers. In the meantime, the agitating teachers are encouraged to stand their ground till the state government assures that justice will be served, it added.
