Shifting of Dimapur DC Hq: Nagaland Govt’s  stance ‘dictatorial,’ says flabbergasted’ NPP

Dimapur, September 29 (MExN): The National People’s Party (NPP) Nagaland State today said that it was “highly flabbergasted” by the current stance of the Nagaland Government regarding the shifting the Deputy Commissioner Dimapur Headquarter to Chümoukedima and called it a ‘dictatorial move.’

“It  (State Government) has given a deaf ear to numerous demands and requests by the Civil Society Organizations, including Tribal Hohos and students’ bodies, etc. not to shift the present DC headquarter of Dimapur District from Dimapur Town to Chumukedima Village,”  NPP Nagaland said in a statement.

“This only proves that the present State Government is not a populist but a police government whereby it is becoming autocratic and utterly biased in favour of a particular tribe and section of people,” it added.

In this connection, the NPP Nagaland stated that it would like to put on record its immense displeasure at the “autocratic step” and questioned the State Government’s “illogical approach of administering the Dimapur Municipality from a far flung village area.”

This would put the denizens of the Dimapur Town area to untold miseries, whereby the people residing in the town area and other nearby sub-divisions would have to traverse immense distances for all kinds of official works on a daily basis, it maintained.

Further calling the decision “abject absurdity,” the NPP Nagaland further impressed upon all right thinking citizens to “condemn and protest against such dictatorial moves by the State Government.”

“At the same time, we demand the State Government to immediately take serious cognition about the shifting the DC Headquarters to Chumukedima so that any untoward situation can be avoided in the near future,” it said.

Meanwhile, the NPP Nagaland State also pointed out that Dimapur, being a commercial gateway for not only Nagaland but also Manipur and nearby Karbi Anglong, its administration should be in the “centre of its commercial hub which is Dimapur Town and not any village or rural area.”

Moreover, many accidents taking place on the National Highway and this shifting of District Headquarters would further aggravate the traffic and compromise the safety of the denizens, it further asserted.

In addition, lack of proper public transportation system would result in the steep rates of fares which private conveyances charge from the public, it said.

If at all, the State Government cannot forego its order, we demand a bifurcation of administrative set up of Dimapur District into Dimapur Rural (ADC) and Dimapur Urban (DC) where the present Headquarter at Dimapur Town be retained as the headquarter of Dimapur Urban as DMC administration is also located within this area, it added

Meanwhile, NPP Nagaland said that as it does not “condone any use of violent or aggressive methods” and called for “resolution to this fiasco”  through democratic and peaceful measures by standing unitedly against the “autocracy of the State Government.”
