Members of the Special Committee COVID-19 Dimapur including Y Kikheto Sema, APC and Commissioner & Secretary, Agriculture and Liremo Lotha, IG (Trg & Border) accompanied by Aotula Imchen, IPS, DCP Zone 2 on Tuesday visited several entry/exit points along Assam-Nagaland border (Dimapur town and Karbi Anglong).
During the visit, the officials interacted with Assam police at Dillai Gate and discussed about facilitating transportation of essential commodities across the border which was mutually agreed since the people living in Assam (Karbi Anglong bordering Dimapur) were facing problems to procure essential commodities from their area which is located far from any town in that state. Owing to lockdown, people living at the border line could not come to Dimapur to procure daily needs and avail medical facilities. For them, the nearest markets to procure essential commodities are Diphu, Manja and Bokajan, which is a far distance even through vehicular means.
They also interacted with the public on the other side and gave a patient hearing to their woes and hardships owing to the current lockdown.
The Committee told the people on the other side that the Dimapur district administration would try its best to facilitate procurement of essential commodities for them through mobile market. Accordingly, the Special Committee instructed all entry/exit points manned by Nagaland police to allow transportation of essential commodities.
Even as facilitating transportation of essential commodities was discussed, people living at the borderline comprising mostly of Nagas raised concerns over unavailability of facilities to withdraw money from banks/ATMS. Responding to this concern, the Special Committee assured the people of arranging mobile ATM for them.
The Committee visited entry/exit points at Dillai Gate, Lengrijan near Immanuel College and LRC junction.
