Hundreds of people today turned up at the state funeral service of former Minister and twice NLA Speaker, late Kiyanilie Peseyie and paid rich tribute to the departed soul and expressed sympathy to the bereaved family members.
Speaking at the funeral service, Naga People’s Front (NPF) President Dr. Shurhozelie Liezietsu remembered Peseyie as someone who upheld the truth throughout his life. “During his time, NLA remain one of the most disciplined houses in the whole country,” Dr Liezietsu added.
MP (Rajya Sabha), KG Kenye said that late Peseyie had exhibited exemplary qualities of leadership during his life.
Nagaland Legislative Assembly (NLA) speaker Dr. Imtiwapang Aier described Kiyanilie Peseyie as “very humble, simple and down to earth.” “During his two terms as Speaker of NLA from 2003 to 2013, he had conducted all the sessions smoothly and successfully with perfect decorum and dignity,” he recalled. “He was a dynamic leader who has devoted his life for the dignity and upliftment of the people. He was sincere and dedicated in carrying out his responsibilities as a public leader,” said Aier.
“To me, in my 15 years of association with him, I have seen qualities which are rarely found in human beings,” said MLA Kuzholiizo (Azo) Nienu, who added during his tenure as Speaker and Minister, late Peseyie had done justice to the chair he occupied. “He left no space and room for nepotism, favouritism and tribalism,” he added.
Nagaland Social Welfare Director, Merangtsungba Aier; WAPO President, representative from Jotsoma Village Council, Lhousarovi Paul Rino and family members- Kevineino Meru, Pfiikhrielie Peseyie, Jethro Merry and Seyiezezo Peseyie also spoke at the funeral service.
Apart from laying of wreath by various individuals and organizations, Chief Secretary Pankaj Kumar laid a wreath on behalf of the state government, which was followed by state ceremonial guard of honour.
Condolence messages from Nagaland Governor, PB Acharya; Chief Minister, TR Zeliang; Naga Hoho; NMA and others were also read out at the service.
Later, the mortal remains of late Kiyanilie Peseyie was laid to rest at his native village in Jotsoma.
