Bengaluru, April 27 (MExN): A meeting between Northeast student leaders of Karnataka and the Nodal Officer of Northeast States and Deputy Commissioner of Police, South East Division, Bengaluru, Srinath Joshi, was held on April 25, to discuss issues arising due to the current lockdown.
Nagaland state was represented by President, Naga Students’ Union Bengaluru, Mughato Kiba and NSUB Advisor, Nuthipru Nienu, a press release stated.
According to the release, issues related to non-payment of salary in hospitality industries, racism issues, house rent, providing groceries and medical emergencies cases was discussed during the meeting. Nodal Officer Srinath Joshi assured full support and stated that Northeast people in Bengaluru should not think they are alone, as Police will provide full support and cooperation and will help solve all the issues arising due to the lockdown, it stated.
Meanwhile, the release also provided updates on the Naga Task Force Bengaluru team which is currently helping in providing free essential commodities like rice, dal, oil and groceries to stranded Nagas in Bengaluru. It said that so far, NTFB has reached more than 1000 affected Nagas.
Mughato Kiba, who is also Convener of NTFB, stated that many Nagas working in the hospitality industries and other private companies have lost their jobs and are facing multiple issues. As such, Kiba requested the government to prioritize in processing the special financial package announced for stranded Nagas outside Nagaland, adding that the package would bring relief and help cater to daily needs.
Chakhesang Union Bangalore
Meanwhile, in a separate release, the Chakhesang Union Bangalore (CUB) has informed stranded people from Phek district who are currently in Bangalore and are in need of assistance, to contact the CUB office or the executive members.
The Union in a press release stated, that the city dwellers can email at cubangalore123@gmail.com or contact the Union's President or General Secretary at +918970182363 or 8259014397 respectively for further information and assistance.
Further, the CUB informed that Rs 30,000 was received from the Chakhesang Baptist Church Council while collective amount of Rs 75,000 was received from the Phek district legislators. Conveying gratitude for the financial donations, the CUB stated that the funds will be used to help the people from Phek district who are currently stranded in Bangalore.
