DIMAPUR, MARCH 16 (MExN): Students of Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS) Guwahati has called off the ongoing hunger strike after a delegation representing TISS Mumbai administration, acting Deputy Director of TISS Guwahati and facilitation faculty members from Guwahati campus met with the students on March 12. A press statement issued by the GOI-PMS Students Association which is spearheading the hunger strike stated that after three rounds of meeting held on March 14 and 15 with the delegation, the hunger strike was called off on March 15, 2018. The association stated that the TISS administration was yet to met the immediate demand of the students to waive off hostel and dining halls fees for the batches 2018-2020 (MA programme) and 2018-2021 (BA programme) nor has it reduced any amount in the upfront payment which the students demands. However, after several rounds of negotiations, the association said it has given faith to the TISS administration and has resolved to wait for the committee report which was formed along with MHRD, UGC, TISS and students’ representative. The press statement also stated that some conditions were laid out by the association during the meetings. They include -one member from GOI-PMS Students Association to represent in the MHRD committee; TISS administration should notify that the fee existing fee structure is not final and assure participation from financially poor students who are doubtful to attain PIT/PI due to current fees issues, TISS Guwahati administration to send emails to all the students who are eligible to GOI-PMS scholarship and encourage them to come for PIT/PI, intimating them the action plans for financial aid.
