Therie makes promises during district tour

Kohima, September 23 (MExN): Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC) District Tour Programme covered Tizit, Mon Town, Mon Village, Jakphang Village and Tobu from September 20 to 22.

Speaking at Tizit enroute to Mon on September 20, NPCC president K Therie recalled former MLA late Yeangphong Konyak and described Yeangphong as a conscious leader who was up to date with the issues confronting the people and always had a well informed opinion and solution.

A press release from Media Cell, NPCC further informed that Therie said after 15 years, the NPF led BJP-DAN government’s policy has completely failed and there is no one to voice out for the people. “Nagaland being a Christian state is today plagued by bribery, corruption and multiple defections,” he stated.

The NPCC chief pointed out infrastructure across the state is also in a dilapidated condition, while the National and State highways and PWD roads are no more. Elaborating on the economy of the state, Therie said the admitted deficit of Rs. 1500 crore and Civil Deposit which in realty is not in the state's coffers would total to about Rs. 2500 crore actual negative closing balance for the current financial year, according to the release.

Stating that corruption has reached its zenith under the present NPF led BJP-DAN Government, he asserted the vicious cycle of corruption and bribery has to end. Politicians are there to serve the people and thus, buying or selling votes should not be an option during elections, he added.

Therie further maintained it is because of corruption that the Government cannot sustain itself, while stating every state has its own budget from the central government which is sufficient for the respective state if used judiciously. “Nagaland Legislative Assembly has become numb to the feelings of the people while the people are going backwards,” it was further stated.

Therie also cautioned that the religious divide in the nation with hard line Hindutva on one side and the remaining communities and religions, on the other side, has come to our doorstep. He also said enforcement of the Uniform Civil Code may soon be realised by the BJP in 2018 if it gets majority in the Rajya Sabha. If that happens, Therie said, all the special provisions we enjoy under the Constitution of India will be negated.

Urging the people to study the Election Manifesto of political parties, Therie further said the people should place more emphasis on the Election Manifestoes of political parties over the candidates themselves. This, he stated, is of utmost importance in order to realise the aspirations of the people as it is the political party that will form the Government and deliver the goods to the people.

He further assured that given opportunity, Congress will implement its manifesto and highlighted some assurances like bringing DUDA and Mini Secretariat in ENPO area, 100 days wages to MGNREGA job card holders, Cashless Health Cards to ensure health for all, one classroom and others contained in the NPCC Roadmap.

Tizit, Therie said, has the potential to be developed into the commercial capital of Mon district. If given the opportunity, he stated a strong and heavy structured highway will be constructed which will be able to withstand the constant passage of heavy loaded transport vehicles ferrying produce of the coal mines. He also said a thermal power station will be built as raw materials and fuel are readily available. In addition, Therie said the tea industry will be developed in Tizit for holistic economic uplift of the people.

Others who addressed the programmes included Shami Angh, former MLA and Vice President, NPCC, Jonathan Ao, General Secretary, NPCC, Capt. GK Zhimomi, General Secretary, NPCC and N. Lucy, President, NPMCC.
