Wokha, November 7 (DIPR): Tokhu Emong- the post harvest festival of the Lotha Naga was celebrated at Bhandari Town on November 7. Minister for Geology, Mining and Border Affairs, Mmhonlumo Kikon graced the occasion as the chief guest.
Extending the festival greeting, Mmhonlumo Kikon also conveyed the Chief Minister’s greeting to the people on the occasion. Encouraging the people to unite and dedicate oneself to the Naga Political solution, he urged the people to preserve their tradition and culture calling it ‘our identity.’
Wozhuro Range Public Organisation celebrated Tokhu Emong in a befitting manner at Wozhuro Stadium on November 7. Besides other entertainment items, Traditional attire Competition for children below 14 years was also one of the highlights to instill a sense of cultural consciousness amongst the younger generation.
Artists from the School of Music and Art, Purana Bazaar perform during the Tokhu Nite at Dimapur on November 6 organised by East Dimapur Lotha Student's Union at ISBT Purana Bazaar, Dimapur. Tokheli Kikon, chairperson NVC &Vice President NPF Central Women Wing speaking as the chief guest at the programme, urged the Lotha community to forgive and forget each other's mistakes in the name of the festival and move ahead in unity. Besides, the artists from the School of Music and Art, other individuals also performed at the Tokhu Nite.
Chumbemo Khenchung shared of the significance of the festival. President, LLRPO, Elithung Odyuo and ADC, Bhandari, Nchumbemo Odyuo delivered short speeches. The Lio-Longchum Village and 7thNAP Bn. presented folk songs. Treasure, Tokhu, Anithung Mozhui pronounced the vote of thanks. The celebration also witnessed tug-of-war, traditional basket making competition and various other traditional games.
Burma Camp Lotha Ekhung organise cultural function
The members of Burma Camp Lotha Ekhung organised a cultural function to mark the celebration of Tokhu Emong on November 7 at Rainbow Colony. It was stated in a press release that Pukhavi Yepthomi, former councillor, Dimapur Municipal Council accompanied by his wife, graced the occasion as chief guest.
Greeting the Lothas of Burma Camp area, Pukhavi Yepthomi said festivals since from the time of forefathers have been celebrated as an occasion of sharing with one another as well as forgetting and forgiving each other. Likewise, the present generation should also uphold the same spirit not only within the community members but also with the members of other neighbouring communities and thereby promoting peace and unity among the people.
Cultural songs and dances and grand festival feast marked the celebration.
