Kohima, October 6 (MExN): Nagaland Deputy Chief Minister Y Patton expressed deep sadness over the passing of former Upa-Lokayukta Mayang Lima, who served the state with sincerity and commitment.
In a condolence message, Patton said Lima dedicated his life to upholding justice and that his long career reflected a strong sense of duty.
Lima served in various key roles, including Judicial Magistrate, Principal Magistrate for Juvenile Justice, District & Sessions Judge, and as Nagaland’s State Vigilance Commissioner, an official release stated.
He was also the President of the Nagaland Judicial Officers Association and played an active role in strengthening the judicial system as a board member of the North-East Judicial Officers Training Institute.
The Deputy Chief Minister said Lima's contributions to the legal fraternity and public service will be remembered with respect and extended heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family.
Several organisations also mourned his demise.
The Nagaland Bar Association (NBA) condoled the demise of Mayang Lima, describing him as a well-known personality in the legal fraternity.
In a condolence message, the association said Lima was among the group of law officers who transitioned from service under the state to judicial service when Nagaland took the momentous decision to separate the Judiciary from the Executive.
Remembering his judicial temperament, the association said Lima had a "receptive and jovial nature" and would greet everyone with an open smile.
While holding court, he seldom showed anger and/or displeasure. He was patient with the advocates appearing in his court, it stated. It added that regardless of the outcome of arguments, one hardly heard of negative sentiments expressed about his conduct.
The NBA said it would remember him for the person he was and the life that he lived. In his passing, the legal fraternity has lost one of the few remaining members of the old guard, it said.
The Dimapur Ao Youth Organization (DAYO) described Lima as a hardworking, honest, sincere, and soft-spoken individual whose dedication earned him widespread respect.
Even after his retirement, the government continued to seek his invaluable services, a true testament to his capability and commitment. His passing is a great loss to the Ao community and to Nagaland as a whole, a DAYO statement said.
The Ward 21 Welfare Committee, Dimapur, where Lima was a resident, expressed deep sorrow and noted his immense contributions to societal welfare.
The Dimapur Urban Council Chairmen Federation (DUCCF) hailed the former judge as a beacon of justice" and a man of "great wisdom and discipline.
His life and service stood as a testimony to fairness, humility, and commitment to truth. His profound sense of duty has left a lasting mark on the judicial fraternity, the DUCCF said in a statement.
The organisations extended their deepest sympathies to the bereaved family and prayed for the departed soul to rest in eternal peace.
