A Chinese Pangolin was discovered by villagers of Tsutoho under Satoi Block in Zunheboto District during road maintenance work around the village on September 27.

Upon discovery, the villagers immediately rescued the pangolin and handed it over to the Community Conserve Area (CCA) and the Village Council which was later on released in the Community Conserve area on September 28, recognizing the significance of protecting this endangered species.

This marks the second time the Chinese Pangolin has been found and safely rescued by the Tsutoho villagers. The coordinated effort between the local community and village authorities led to the pangolin being safely relocated and released into a designated community reserve area.

The villagers of Tsutoho have demonstrated a strong commitment to conservation and biodiversity protection. Their swift and responsible action reflects a growing awareness of the urgent need to safeguard endangered wildlife.

The Chinese Pangolin (Manis pentadactyla) is currently listed as critically endangered, primarily due to illegal hunting for its meat and scales, as well as habitat loss caused by deforestation.
