DIMAPUR, APRIL 17 (MExN): The Tuli Town Ward Union (TTWU) has questioned the preparedness of the Nagaland State Government to tackle the COVID-19 pandemic. It also demanded transparency in the utilization of funds being allocated for the fight against the pandemic in the State.
“No political intervention should be required for this COVID 19 designated allocated funds but it shouldbe strictly implement through administrative mechanism,” a press release from the TTWU Chairman, T Nukshi Yaden and Secretary, Aomeren stated.
It meanwhile pointed out that the check post at Watiyongpang which falls under Tuli administration is one of the main inter points bordering with Assam. The union said that more police personnel deployment is necessary to ensure that illegal entry of people through this border is prevented at this time.
It also informed that more medical preparedness is required at the CHC Tuli, as “no medical authorities are visiting CHC and nothing has been prepared here till now.” Concentrating only at district headquarters will not be enough, it pointed out.
The union expressed support to the measures taken by the central government in dealing with the pandemic, and recognizing that the fight may go on for a longer period of time, it demanded that the State Government give more attention.
It further expressed dismay that instead of the government providing more help, NGOs,Churches, villages, colonies, individuals and different organizations are more actively coming forward to support the state government and in curbing the situation.
“The co-operation from everyone during the 21 day’s lockdown has made a big difference. But if the battle continues for more days or months, how prepared is the government for emergency response?” it questioned.
It meanwhile reminded that the relief sanction is for those who do not have money to buy essential commodities and medical facilities. It is “not for those who have authority to handle this fund,” the union said, and urged for judicious use of all funds and relief materials.
