Under-trial Review Committee meetings held across state

Kohima, April 19 (MExN): Under-trial Review Committee (UTRC) meetings are convened in different districts under District Legal Legal Services Authorities (DLSAs) during the last few days.
Such meetings were held in Dimapur, Phek and Tuensang recently. The meetings were held as per the direction of the State Government High Power Committee (HPC) to review cases of Under Trial Prisoners (UTPs) and release them on parole.
A total 109 UTPs and 8 Juvenile have currently released on parole, a press release from MSLSA informed.
The UTRC committee has been directed to meet every week and take such decision in consultation with the concerned authority in view of the direction of Apex Court, it said.
Earlier, in compliance to the direction, the State Government constituted a High Power Committee (HPC) on March 30 headed by Justice S Serto, & Executive Chairman, Nagaland State Legal Services Authority (NSLSA), with Abhijit Sinha IAS, Principal Secretary (Home), Nagaland and Renchamo P Kikon IPS, ADG (Prison), Nagaland as members.
The committee comprises of the Chairperson or District & Sessions Judge, Superintendent of Police, Superintendent of Jail and a Panel lawyer.
