Verification to resolve Assam-Meghalaya border disputes

The Regional Committee on boundary settlement of Meghalaya and Assam today held its first phase of verification to 8 villages under Pillangkata-Khanapara Cluster in Ri Bhoi district.

During the verification process, representatives of both the state governments visited the villages including Mawiong, Barapathar, Pillangkata A, B, Maikhuli, Patharkuchi, Pahamkinshoh and Khanapara.

The Regional Committee on Boundary for Settlement of Border Dispute Ri Bhoi district was led by Meghalaya Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong, as the chairman, accompanied by local MLA’s namely Dasakhiatbha Lamare, Sosthenes Sohtun, Mayral Born Syiem, MDC Victor Rani, along with the representatives of Hima Mylliem among others. 

Meanwhile, from the Regional Committee Kamrup Metro, Assam was led by cabinet minister Pijush Hazarika as the chairman along with MLA Atul Borauh among others.

Briefing the media after the verification, Prestone Tynsong and Pijush Hazarika stated that the inspection to these villages was held as part of the commitment in settling border issues and also to permanently resolve the boundary disputes between the two neighbouring states.

They informed that the visits were held after a meeting held on October 8 at Vivanta Taj Hotel. Documentation of these lands was also verified and it was decided that a physical verification will also be conducted in the bordering areas.

Both the representatives of the Regional Committee stated that the reports collected during the visit to these villages will be submitted to the higher-ups of both the state governments where it will be examined and a resolution will be passed.
