Vidima Village Council clarifies on viral video

Dimapur, April 19 (MExN): The Vidima Village Council today issued a press release seeking to “bring out the facts and circumstances that led to the drastic steps taken by the youth.”

The press release appended by the Council Chairman and Secretary stated that a decision was made to impose “complete lockdown” in the village jurisdiction and all the villagers who are working in other places within the close vicinity of the village were directed to return to the village before March 25.

The release stated that subsequent to the lockdown in the village, on April 13 there was a report about a person entering the village following which youth volunteers conducted a search on April 14. During the search, the youth volunteers “came upon the particular house where the person was highly suspected to be putting up.” It held that the woman of the house refuted when they inquired but found the “suspected person hiding inside the house.”

The person, the release said, “confessed” to entering the village on April 13.

While admitting that the incident as depicted in the viral video is serious and “the action by the youth rather on the extreme side,” the Vidima Village Council requested all concerned “to look at the incident after fully considering the events and circumstances leading to the ugly episode before passing any judgment.”

The Village Council and all the frontal organizations are putting out all efforts for the welfare of the people and it was never our intention to harass anyone and are equally concerned about the hardship and inconvenience faced by all due to the present pandemic, the press release stated.

Four persons are in police custody over the incident, the police informed on Saturday.
