Dimapur, September 15 (MExN): With traffic being diverted through the Niuland–Zadima road as one of the alternative routes due to landslides on NH-29, Hovishe and Ghotovi villages under Niuland District have announced an indefinite closure of the road from September 16, citing its deplorable condition.
A joint consultative meeting of the two villages was held on September 15 at Niuland Town, where they said that despite repeated representations and appeals to the Government of Nagaland for proper construction of the road into a vital all-weather route, it has long been neglected.
The resolution stated that “No vehicular movement including Govt. Vehicles shall be permitted to ply through the jurisdiction of Hovishe and Ghotovi village from 16th September 2025, 6 am onwards. The road will remain closed indefinitely. However Police, Medical services and Para Military services shall be exempted.”
It also issued a public travel advisory informing all commuters not to use the Niuland–Zadima road. “Any individual or vehicles plying the road shall do so entirely at their own risk. The two villages shall continue to impose the ban on vehicular movement and reaffirm our stand until and unless the Government take immediate steps for the construction of nd—Zadima road,” the resolution said.
The resolution was signed by representatives of the two villages including Ghotovi Village GB cum Chairman Loco G. Kahoto Zhimo and Hovishe Village GB Vikato Yeptho, among others. Copies of the resolution were forwarded to the Deputy Commissioner Niuland and the Deputy Commissioner Kohima for information.
