Mon, October 21 (MExN): The Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) of Wangkhao Government College, Mon, Nagaland organised a one-day workshop on Professional Development Program at the college Seminar Hall on October 21.
Rev Dr Ellen Konyak Jamir, Associate Professor of Pastoral Counselling & Psychotherapy, Oriental Theological Seminary (OTS), Dimapur was the resource person, stated a DIPR report. In the first session, Dr Ellen highlighted the importance on identifying major causes or triggers of stress in a workplace and the various symptoms accompanying it. She underlined how such symptoms if not dealt with in a positive and constructive ways can lead to major setbacks at a personal as well as at the collective levels.
From a psycho-religious approach, she opined that it is important to always be centered on the importance of being selfless and display full commitment to whatever our calling or our destiny has led us to. She suggested how it is essential to deal with various triggers of stress through proper communication, support and empathy. Moreover, she emphasized the need to always be ready to help others and adopt a non-judgemental attitude towards one another in a workplace.
In the second session, participants were divided into various groups and made to identify the various areas at an individual and institutional level towards making effective change for the growth of the institution. Each group was made to discuss on issues and make a presentation.
Dr Ellen closed the Session by encouraging everyone to reflect on the various points discussed and urged all the participants to constantly strive for improvements.
Earlier, Dr Tialila, Principal of Wangkhao Government College, welcomed the faculty members and thanked the resource person for taking the time to come and speak at the College. In her welcome address, she also appraised the importance on the rapidly changing landscape in higher education and therefore the need for teachers everywhere to constantly equip and adapt with the changing scenario. She stressed on how teachers as educators play a vital role in shaping the lives of many students and hence also carry the impetus towards becoming more refined. She pointed out how a workshop on professional development goes a long way towards continually redefining and challenging oneself.
The programme was chaired by Medochülie Ciesotsu, Assistant Professor, Department of Political Science and the vote of thanks was delivered by Honjem Konyak, Coordinator, IQAC and Assistant Professor, Department of History.
