KOHIMA, SEPTEMBER 25 (MExN): The Western Angami Public Organization (WAPO) on Thursday issued an open appeal urging immediate repair of damaged roads on National Highway 29 within Western Angami jurisdiction.
In a statement, WAPO highlighted the alarming condition of the road between Kezanu (Old KMC dumping site) and Liezocha (Shiv Mandir), including the bypass alternative passing through Jotsoma, and said the four-lane stretch on NH 29 is also in “deplorable and pathetic condition.”
The organization said incessant rains over the past few months have caused repeated sinking and landslides, resulting in large potholes, cracks and uneven surfaces, turning daily travel into a constant risk for vehicles and commuters. WAPO warned that the situation will worsen as the rainy season extends beyond October, making stretches very risky and impassable.
WAPO appealed to the concerned authorities, including the National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL) and Nagaland Public Works Department (NPWD), to undertake immediate repair work on the affected stretches; strengthen and reinforce the road to prevent further sinking or landslide damage and ensure long-term maintenance to guarantee safe passage for all.
The organization said it hopes the appeal reaches the authorities promptly to ensure safety, connectivity and relief for the public. It added that failure to take necessary action may compel WAPO to initiate measures for the safety and welfare of the people.
