Who are the most powerful in Naga society: Bureaucrats, Church Leaders or Politicians ?

Those who voted for Church leaders had this to say:

• The Church has time and again proved that they hold all the Aces, though for most of us (who call ourselves the GEn Next) think they  hold the jokers card too. The politicians and bureaucrats bows before the church, no matter what they might say otherwise, or how else we still have the Prohibition Act? It was the church initiative and the politicians have no say. Pity but the truth is out there!!!!

• Being a Christian State, the church leaders have a powerful say in the entire State administrative powers.

• No social power and political power can transform the Naga society in this present era. But the divine power is the only source to transform our Naga community. The destination of every power is in the hands of Almighty God, Who is the Alpha and Omega the beginning and the end. Dedicated Church Leaders who stands for the truth are the most powerful in the Naga society.

• Because Nagas are so emotional that they are always being carried away by sermons of these people! Thus it is they who usually impart the negative or positive notion to the masses.

• In a society, the role of the Church is varied. It is like the backbone that functions in a human’s body. It saves the society from decaying; without it there will be endless corruption, chaos. Most importantly, it leads someone to eternal salvation!

• Nagaland is for Christ. Dedicated church leaders, should fight the good fight with faith not power.

• Simply because of respect for our almighty God

• They can rock

Those who voted for Bureaucrats had this to say:

• Masters of the State! They rule the roost. Also they are ‘flexibly placed’ to turn into a Politician, Religious Freelancer or whatever with the gains from 33 years (and more) of methodical siphoning of the mullah. If it was not for the money who would have liked to become a bureaucrat anyway? Of what use would it be? Imagine spending long hours meticulously designing ways to hide facts amongst the voluminous detail that they collectively have to sift through day in day out, mostly doing so for the furtherance of their careers. Self-appraisals, ACR’s ... you get the drift.  They are very ‘united’ in their resolve, whatever that is, as one realizes listening to official language- honey overflowing from silver jugs. Bureaucrats can really change society for the better. Question is who will lay on the altar?

• They can implement the banning of liquor in Nagaland if they try!

• Definitely the bureaucrats… certainty of their position in the office and lifespan to bring positive changes!

• Politicians come and go but Bureaucrats are here to stay

• Because they can get things done their way, no matter what.

• They hold all the cards.

Those who voted for Politicians had this to say:

• Politicians decide although the Church leader or bureaucrat may advice. At the end of the day they hold discretionary power. Forget about norms and rules.

• Because they control and can willfully delay any political decision on any technical ground!

• As long as we follow the present system, Politicians. They are definitely the most powerful but for all the wrong reasons. If only some of their powers could have been put into areas of social & economic well being the public would be more appreciative. Today the common man has lost all faith in the politician and the very term conjures up the monster in them; that of abuse and misuse at the altar of mobocracy. One only hopes that future politicians channel their power in a right way for the uplift-ment of the State and society.

• Because they got the freaking money (THIEVES)

• Election process in Nagaland says it all!

• Because no matter what, they can get things done ‘by hook or by crook’. Bogus appointments, transfers, contracts, jobs etc. You name it they can deliver! So yes the most powerful in every way. Only during elections they fall at the feet of the voters. That is the only time they are powerless!

Other interesting comments:

• It is the individual Naga who is most powerful. The above three (ie politicians, Church leaders & Bureaucrats), however, makes a person think of three mad horses pulling a Russian Troika ‘apart’ and running aimlessly around a Roulette table guns blazing.

• The So Called National Workers/Freedom fighters!

• Not worth voting for any of the three!
