DIMAPUR, NOVEMBER 14 (MExN): The Angami Public Organization (APO) on Monday reiterated its declaration that it will not allow any sort of protest, agitation or disruption to be held under its jurisdiction.
The declaration comes against the backdrop of the Public Coordination Committee (PCC) headed by ACAUT Nagaland, PSAN, NTC and others calling for a sit-in protest at New Secretariat junction, Kohima, on November 15, 16 & 17.
The sit-in protest is being called to demand setting up of Lokayukta, revoking the decision to scrap class-III posts from the purview of the NPSC among other issues.
The APO in a press statement issued by its vice president KT Vilie maintained that the reaffirmation against any sort of protest is made with no ill will against any genuine demands made by various organizations.
It asserted that the declaration is made for the “health of our ailing society to at least take a short break this festive season.”
While there are many issues and concerns which require to be addressed by the Government, the APO however maintained that “a tired physical body also needs rest. Our society is tired. It needs rest and get refreshed.”
It also emphasized that most students are on the verge of their final examinations whose career and life can never be compromised under any circumstances. It also reminded that the “creamiest layer of the Naga society from all Naga communities are residing in its capital who are the future of our society.”
Furthermore, the APO said for the convenience and smooth conduct of the upcoming festivals, it has detailed the Angami Youth Organization (AYO) to initiate necessary measures so that preparations and the festivities are not disrupted in any manner.
At the same time, the APO felt it extremely important that the students are provided a peaceful environment for their lesson preparations and examinations for which the Angami Students Union are entrusted to oversee the wellbeing of all students.
The APO, in this connection, espoused trust that “good sense shall prevail in our society and perhaps through this peaceful break, free of any forms of agitation, this season would provide us an opportunity to reflect on our commitments and responsibilities that we all have to individually and collectively shoulder.”
PCC appeal APO to consider stand
Meanwhile, the PCC has fervently appealed to the APO to kindly consider their stand and make the peaceful sit-in protest scheduled from November 15 onwards an exception as the future of the younger generation in particular and the Nagas in general is at stake.
“It is at times like these, that Nagas as a race should be united and raise a unanimous voice against all the ills that plague the state,” the press statement from PCC informed.
It also reminded that every member of the public should take it as a personal issue and a challenge to achieve the dreams of the common man for the common good and a better future. Every right thinking citizen who cares for future of Nagaland is invited to come and show solidarity, it added.
