People avail the screening facility during the World Diabetes Day at District Hospital, Mon on November 14.

Mon, November 15 (MExN): On World Diabetes Day, Chief Medical Officer, Mon Dr Supongmenla Walling said that the day is observed to raise awareness about the disease’s increasing prevalence, complications, and treatment options.
During the observation of the programme by District Health Society, Mon on November 14 at District Hospital, Mon under the theme ‘Diabetes and well being,’ the CMO pointed out that the repercussions can be prevented or postponed with medicine, for which regular screening and treatment for complications is essential.
A press release from media officer, NHM Mon stated that Dr Supongmenla also went into depth on type 1 and type 2 diabetes, stating that the disease is a leading cause of blindness, kidney failure, heart attack, stroke, and lower limb amputation.
She said that a healthy diet, regular physical activity, and limiting tobacco use can help prevent or delay type 2 diabetes. She concluded that with adequate access to diabetic care and support, everyone can overcome the disease.
Imtirenla Longkumer, NCD councellor, District Hospital, Mont stated that the number of high blood pressure and diabetic patients in the OPD is consistently high.
She said that 23 persons were screened, five of whom were diagnosed with diabetes during the day at the District Hospital, Mon.
