WSH cautions against misuse of social media

DIMAPUR, APRIL 17 (MExN): The Western Sumi Hoho (WSH) today cautioned against the “misuse of social media platforms by some irresponsible persons of Sumi community tarnishing the image of the Sumis and thus bringing a great embarrassment to the whole Sumi community.”

A press release from the WSH referred to a video clip depicting migrant labourers being stopped and “their body temperatures checked by a car music player.”

“This has brought mockery and ridicule from all over. It has also send out a wrong message of racial discrimination outside the state. The WSH states that this is no time for such foolish and mischievous acts and warns that strong action will be imposed on those people involved in the video,” the WSH stated.

It also pointed to an audio clip spreading fake information about the status of an infected person. “Such callous and irrational behavior will invite a strong action. Circulating unverified and unauthentic messages and information is creating more confusion in these difficult times,” the WSH said.

The WSH meanwhile further urged pastors to refrain from “posting on every issue related to government, society and individuals and engaging in character assassination which is very much unbecoming of the servants of God.”

“Many people have questioned the credibility of our pastors for such reckless behavior. As pastors, they are cautioned to use it in a positive way and act responsibly. They have brought damage to many people causing psychological harassment and mental agony. The WSH will not bear any responsibility for them if legal actions are taken on them for defamation,” it stated.

Meanwhile, on receiving information about the conduct of Easter Sunday Service at some churches despite the prohibitory order to suspend all types of mass gatherings and religious services from the central government, state government, NBCC, WSBAK, some churches have deliberately defied the order, the WSH informed.

“Disallowing of such activities at present times is for common safety and should be obeyed by all. The Hoho will initiate strong action on those who have deliberately disregarded the advisory as per the law,” it cautioned.

It meanwhile appealed to all Sumis to act responsibly, maturely and “abstain from bringing further shame and disgrace to the community.”
