2nd Social Work Fest: Shared future for transformative change

CHÜMOUKEDIMA, APRIL 14 (MExN): The Department of Social Work, St Joseph University, Chümoukedima, held its ‘2nd Social Work Fest’ on the university premises on April 9 and 10 on the theme ‘Shared Future for Transformative Change.’

The festival aimed to bring social work institutes together to collaborate, share ideas, and engage students in various activities, stated a press release received here. Social Work students and faculties from St Joseph University and Don Bosco College, Maram, participated in multiple activities and competitions such as debates on the theme ‘Impact of Westernization: North East India Perspective,’ video presentations on the theme ‘Shared Future for Transformative Change,’ street plays, model presentations on the theme ‘Technology for Good,’ painting competitions on the theme ‘Together We Live,’ cultural shows, and solo and solo dances, among others.

Rev Fr Sajan Joseph, Executive Director of Development Association of Nagaland, Chümoukedima, graced the event as the special guest on the inaugural day. In his inaugural address, Fr Sajan highlighted the role of social workers in contributing to a shared future through collective action. He emphasised the importance of collaboration, inclusion, and working together to promote equality, justice, and transformation in individuals' lives, communities, and society as a whole. 

On the second day, M Yimok Phom, Assistant District Programme Manager, NSRLM, Nagaland, DRDA, Dimapur, was the resource person. In her address, she highlighted the role of SHG in promoting transformative change. She stressed the role of NRML in shaping the livelihood of the rural poor, especially women. 

Speaking on the achievements of NSRLM, she highlighted that NRSLM has promoted 15572 SHGs, 1200 VOs, and 85 CLFs within the Dimapur district. The event deliberated on diversity and social problems through various modules and items from the participating institutes.
