Dimapur, February 3 (MExN): The Joint Coordination Committee (JCC) has relaxed the indefinite bandh in place in Dimapur since January 31. While stating that normal life should resume within the Dimapur municipal area, the JCC informed this evening that the bandh henceforth will be effective only for government offices, including the district administration and nationalised/government-run banks. Government officials and their vehicles will also not be allowed to ply.
The police and essential government-run services including schools/colleges/training institutes, Fire & Emergency Services, power, medical services and personnel will be exempt. Youth were requested to volunteer in their respective jurisdictions.
Bandh to continue in Diphupar
In Diphupar however, the JCC stated that the bandh will not be relaxed. Commuters were asked to move in the village jurisdiction, in particular the highway, with caution as the area “is still tense.”
The JCC further reiterated that the Commissioner of Police, Dimapur should be suspended, not transferred. It also asserted that the Judicial Inquiry instituted by the state government to inquire into the incidents on January 31 in Dimapur and Longleng be impartial, unbiased and completed in a month’s time.
JCC is not a political institution
It meanwhile maintained that the JCC “is not a political institution.” Stating “no political party or agenda can erode or influence the stand of the JCC,” it stated that the JCC should not be targeted for the “political misadventure” of the government.
It further held the state government responsible for the events of January 31 in Dimapur and Longleng and the subsequent violence in Kohima. The state government by reversing the ‘Tripartite Agreement’ of January 30 has “crushed the sanctity of the NBCC,” the JCC said, while adding that this exhibits its apathy to the people’s voice.
DCCI to resume normal business
The Dimapur District Chamber of Commerce and Industry (DCCI) has decided that businesses establishments in Dimapur will resume normal business from February 4. A press note from the DCCI informed that business organizations in other districts have also resolved the same. It asked the district administration and police to keep vigil.
Tribute service in Mkg today
The total bandh in Mokokchung called by the Ao Senden today in conjunction with the ‘mourning day’ passed off peacefully. Ao Senden has informed that there will be a one hour tribute service at Police Point, Mokokchung from 8:00 tomorrow “in honour of the two martyrs,” and asked businesses during the period to close down.
Kohima shutdown for govt
The NTAC has meanwhile called for an indefinite shutdown of government offices and ban on plying of government vehicles till its demands are fulfilled. Private and government educational institutions besides shops and private vehicles have been exempted. The Angami Youth Organisation (AYO) also intimated the same.
