Dimapur, March 22 (MExN): St. Mary’s Cathedral Hr. Sec. School, Kohima, inaugurated its two-day long annual cultural day cum literary competitions 2013, on March 21 at 9 am. This was informed in a press release by the school principal, Fr. Johnny.
The chief guest of the programme, Rev. Dr. James Thoppil, the Bishop of Kohima in his speech appreciated the rich culture and traditions of Nagas and said that all the tribes of Nagaland with their unique culture and traditions make the state beautiful, as all the colours of rainbow together make a rainbow amazing, Fr. Johnny mentioned. The chief guest added that culture is cumulative deposit of knowledge, experience, beliefs, values, attitudes, meanings, symbols, hierarchies, religion, etc. that a group of people accept and is passed from one generation to another. He opined that the best culture is one that grows through its openness to other cultures around, and adapts good values for the human growth, the press note said.
It mentioned that the days were marked with folk dances, songs, traditional attire show, folklores etc. “The whole school campus was made more beautiful as the students and the teachers came in their own traditional dresses.” Fr. Johnny further said that the school had a mini Hornbill fest mood during the two days of competitions.
Rev. Fr. Johny said that the cultural day was held to inculcate love and appreciation for their own culture and tradition in the minds of young generation.
