Chakhesang Mothers’ Association promotes indigenous dish

The Chakhesang Mothers’ Association (CMA) organized ‘Indigenous cooking competition, documentation and declaration of Chakhesang dish cum interpretation and display of Chakhesang attires’ at Phek Town on July 20.

Speaking on the occasion as the special guest, Kuzholuzo (Azo) Nienu, leader of Naga People’s Front (NPF) Legislature Party and Co-chairman UDA stressed on the need to popularize the local cuisine on the ground of tasty and healthy food. 

“We are going to document Chakhesang dish through the initiative of the CMA,” he said and termed it as a history in the making and a big achievement. He also stressed on the need to focus more on health benefits and foods for health to ensure that “it make us healthy and strong.”

Phek Deputy Commissioner, Razouvolie Dozo lauded CMA for organizing the event to promote and document Chakhesang dish. He also informed that the District Administration, Phek, had recently organized Chef Training including Cake Baking Training at Phek. Oven has also been extended to some women entrepreneurs and many are now earning their livelihood through it, Dozo added.

Chakhesang Public Organization (CPO) President, Vezuhü Keyho shared greeting and stressed on the need to promote indigenous food and lauded CMA for their effort and initiative.

CMA, President, Zhonelü Tünyi said that indigenous food is part of one’s culture and identity, for which CMA decided to promote the same. She was optimistic that the documentation and declaration of Chakhesang dish will give a space of commercial prospect and livelihood support for women folk.

 PTMA wins cooking competition
Pfutsero Town Mothers’ Association (PTMA) with the item- “Thice/Kuna” bagged the 1st position and awarded with a cash prize of Rs 30,000 sponsored by CPO. 

With the item ‘Chunyite-Vonethi (Piglet),” Secheku Women Welfare Society stood 2nd position and received Rs 20,000 sponsored by CMA.

Khezha/Khuzha Area Mothers’ Association with “Loche khuwee” bagged 3rd position and awarded with Rs. 15,000 sponsored by Chakhesang Youth Front while Chakhesang Women Society Kohima with “Kukha Shetsu” bagged 4th position and received Rs 10,000 sponsored by Chakhesang Students’ Union. Secheku Women Welfare Society has been declared as “overall best.”

Judges for cooking competition included; Vechisalü Nukhu, Advisor CMA, Dukhrülü Lohe, Project Officer, DRDA Phek, Neingupe-u K. Rhakho, Women Secretary CBCC, Kekhrongulo-u Kapfo, former treasurer NMA, Mütünülü Keyho, Naga Chef Season 8 winner, Vesupra Keyho, Superintendent of Police Phek and Vekhosayi Nyekha, President, Tenyimia Union Dimapur.

The programme was chaired by CMA, Publicity & Information Secretary, Wezope-u Elah while Phek Town Baptist Church, pastor, Rev Dr Thüpuchiyi Khusoh invoked God’s blessing. Acknowledgment of the guests was done by CMA Treasurer, Wepretso-u Kupa. CMA General Secretary, Kezevinuo Krome and CMA Joint Secretary, Kekhroche-u K Tara compered the event.

The occasion also witnessed folk song from Vehusulü Rose and Hushezülü Khamo and Chakhesang Cultural Organization. Nezelu Nyekha, Executive Director, Chakhesang Women Welfare Society highlighted the interpretation and display of Chakhesang attires. Vote of thanks was proposed by CMA vice president Ruyizolü Rhakho.
