DIMAPUR, MAY 14 (MExN): On May 10, a news item appeared in a local daily informing of a piggery scheme. The information from the District Veterinary and Animal Husbandry officer stated that issuing of forms for ‘rural piggery production 2012-13’ will begin on May 14, while the last date of submission of forms will be May 18 and the interview on May 21. No mention of the district concerned was however stated. The intended target, according to the piece of information, was ‘interested unemployed public’. It generated significant confusion. In response to the notice, one unemployed youth visited the office of the District Veterinary and Animal Husbandry in Dimapur on May 13.
According to the youth, he had visited the office seeking additional information on the said government scheme. To his bewilderment, the youth was told that the piece of information was not issued from the office, while informing that the process of issuing and submission of forms for the said piggery scheme is already complete in Dimapur district, only awaiting interview of the applicants. It not only puzzled the information seeker but also the employee who was approached.
Not to be let down, the youth said that he further sought information on the process of selection of beneficiaries. To this he was told that ‘everything gets done at the top’ and the office only conducts ‘interviews’ of candidates as necessary formality.
It was later learned that for Dimapur district, forms were issued to aspirants towards the last part of April and the process of submission of forms had come to a close. On this, the unemployed youth said that there was no public information with regard to the piggery scheme for Dimapur district. He added that he further inquired if at all the district office issued any public notice with regard to issuing of forms for applicants in Dimapur. To this he was told that it is done through ‘local channels’ without specifying the medium.
The confusion did not end there however, as more candidates turned up at the office the next day on May 14 making similar inquiries. It further confused the staffers at the office who had to turn away people seeking forms, much to the dejection of the latter. One employee at the office said that many visitors turned up seeking application forms but had to turn them away as the employees themselves had no idea of the application forms for which particular scheme the people were seeking.
