DMC, Hindu Seva Samiti call for a pollution-free Holi

DIMAPUR, MARCH 22 (MExN): The Dimapur Municipal Council (DMC) and Hindu Seva Samiti Dimapur (HSSD) have appealed for maintaining safety and cleanliness while celebrating Holi.

In a circular, the DMC citing the Swachh Bharat Mission-Urban Nagaland Calendar of activities, advised  the Hindu community residing within the DMC jurisdiction to conduct Cleanliness Drive before and after the celebration of Holi so as to maintain a healthy and clean environment.

It encouraged the use of organic colours, while advising against using “powders and liquids” that can cause bodily harm.
The DMC also requested to all to unite towards taking care of the environment by keeping the streets clean and stopping pollution and replacing  disposable items with reusable items for a cleaner and healthier environment.”

Meanwhile, while extended heartfelt wishes to everyone on the occasion of Holi festival, the HSSD urged all Hindu communities in Dimapur to celebrate a pollution-free Holi and emphasised on the importance of adopting eco-friendly practices and safety measures to safeguard both the environment and human health.

Use organic colours, refrain from littering the streets and avoiding any harm to animals by not throwing colours on them, the HSSD advised in a press release from its President Gopal Sharma.

After the festivities, proper disposal of water balloons, plastic pichkaris and other materials in other designated garbage bins is advised to facilitate efficient waste management and prevent environment pollution, it said.

By adopting these precautions, individuals can ensure a joyful and sustainable festive season for all, it added.

The Holi symbolises the triumph of good over evil and it holds significant social importance as people come together, burying their hatchets, and celebrating the festival as one, regardless of class, creed or economic status, the HSSD conveyed.
