Dmp citizens rush to Assam for supplies

Dimapur, February 3 (MExN): With essentials running short due to the state wide bandh which entered its sixth day today, the border towns of Lahorijan and Khatkhati in Assam reaped benefits of the bandh in Dimapur as people rushed to these spots to stock up on essentials, including food and fuel and for withdrawal of money from ATMs.  

On Friday, vehicles with Nagaland state registration started lining up at the gas stations in these two places. Employees at the gas stations informed that vehicles from Nagaland started lining up since morning. The gas station at Lahorijan ran out of fuel by noon, while the one near the CRPF base in Khatkhati also witnessed a lot of vehicles, mostly from Nagaland. There were also long lines of people from Dimapur seen at the two ATMs in Khatkhati.  

While the Dimapur municipal area remained calm, bandh volunteers were stationed from Diphupar gate till Chumukedima, with roadblocks set up on the National Highway. Presence of police and IRB personnel was visible at the major intersections of Dimapur town area, but there was no security presence after the Airport junction. The CM’s residence at 2 ½ Mile continued to witness a large presence of security personnel.
