LMFN holds meeting with PDA candidate

Dimapur, March 25 (MExN): Dr Chumben Murry has assured that he would represent both Nagas and Non-Naga communities of Nagaland in the Parliament if elected as a representative of the Lok Sabha from the State.

The voice of Non-Nagas living permanently in Nagaland will not be suppressed, he added, addressing a 'joint coordination meeting cum open discussion hour' conducted by the Linguistic Minority Forum of Nagaland (LMFN) at Saramati Hotel on March 24.

Dr Murry is the consensus candidate of the ruling People's Democratic Alliance (PDA) for the lone Lok Sabha seat in Nagaland in the forthcoming general election scheduled in the State on April 19.

He said Nagas have many problems to be solved and at the same time assured that if he is elected, issues of minorities will also be heard, a press release from the LMFN further informed.

Dr Murry assured to sit again with minority communities within the next few months to understand inner issues which are unaddressed, it added.

He further noted with appreciation that due to the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his Look-East/Act-East Policy, the perceptions of mainland Indian politicians have improved towards Nagaland and many developmental activities have been started in the North East.

As per the LMFN release, representatives from 12 communities were present at the meeting and minority community leaders from various Non-Naga communities had an open discussion with Dr Murry and put forward their thoughts and queries regarding fundamental rights and basic facilities, particularly education, employment, and medical facilities.

A memorandum was also submitted by the Gorkha Community to him on behalf of Gorkha citizens living in Nagaland.

Earlier, Bishnu Bhattacharjee, Convenor and Chairman of LMFN, clarified that the forum is a non-political united organisation formed for the welfare and development of the minority (Non-Naga) community in Nagaland. It aims to highlight unaddressed issues to Government authorities related to the minority community living permanently in Nagaland, contributing a lot to the State through various activities, he added.

Bhattacharjee also requested all community leaders to cooperate with LMFN and work together to strengthen the minority community and take part in nation-building, added the release from LMFN General Secretary, Kabir Choudhury.
