Guest speaker and debate critic, Robinson Temsu Jamir, HoD, History Department, Sazolie College, Jotsoma for the Baptist College Literary Day 2024 held on April 5 in Kohima.
KOHIMA, APRIL 7 (MExN): The Baptist College Literary Day 2024 under the theme “Educate, Articulate, Liberate” was held on April 5 at Ura Academy, Kohima.
Speaking on the occasion as the guest speaker and debate critic, Robinson Temsu Jamir, HoD, History Department, Sazolie College, Jotsoma emphasized on “how we are living in a distressing and yet an interesting time.”
“Distressing because of the local and global conflicts; yet interesting because of the human capacity to bring about change in the midst of all that. The triumph of humanity remains a hope amongst the chaos,” he elaborated.
Touching on the theme, Jamir emphasized on the idea of education as the cornerstone of every academic journey and it is only through the right education that “we equip ourselves with the skills and information to navigate the complex world.”
He said that the right education should convert to articulation, as it is what bridges knowledge with action. Articulation of ideas should convert into liberation where one can question and reimagine the world around us, enabling rights for all, he added.
The debate, based on the topic “Social Media has blurred the practical reality of today’s youth” comprised of 14 participants.
Sanjana Sarki of the 6th Semester Sociology Department was awarded the best debater, while the opposition emerged as the winning team.
The debate was moderated by Dr. Khobu Tsolo. In extempore speech event, Syntia Chemtok (6th Semester History department) and Kevingulie Metsieo (2nd semester Sociology Department) bagged the first and second position respectively.
In the prepared speech competition on the topic “Right come with responsibilities,” Razouvinuo of 6th semester from Sechü campus and Toni Awomi of 2nd semester Sociology Department stood 1st and 2nd position respectively.
The winners of the short film making competition on the theme “Go Green Express” includes; The Eight Brothers from Sechü campus and the BA 4th semester SEC class (General and Sociology students).
The total entries of four films were adjudged by Keduokhrietuo Sachü (Sound and Content Head, Take One Studio/Member of Film Association of Nagaland), Vikepe Yhokha (Cinematography, Take One Studio/Member of Film Association of Nagaland) and Sevolu, Asst Prof Environmental Sciences and Convenor of Eco Club Baptist College.
The formal programme was chaired by Dr. Videkhono Yhokha, Convenor, Literary Committee; invocation prayer by Chaplain, BCK, Tamreimung Chüsi; welcome address by Principal, Dr Kekuchol Pusa and special number presented by Baptist College Fellowship. The rapporteurs for the day were Keneiseno Savino, Chumei, Ngiplon and Kumrito.
