The Aqahuto Area Students' Union (AASU) on Saturday organised a felicitation programme for successful HSLC and HSSLC Examination 2026 candidates, as well as achievers in various competitive examinations, at A.K. Industrial Village Baptist Church.

A total of 133 students were honoured, including 78 who cleared the HSLC examination and 55 who passed the HSSLC examination.

Sub-Divisional Officer (Civil), Dhansiripar, Kelengunou Solo, who attended the programme as the speaker, urged students to pursue education with dedication and discipline, describing it as the foundation for personal growth, social progress and economic development.

Congratulating the students for bringing laurels to their families and the area, Solo said those who had cleared the HSLC and HSSLC examinations were at a crucial stage where decisions regarding higher education and career choices would shape their future and determine their place in society.

She urged them to work hard and make informed decisions, saying education not only imparts knowledge but also develops critical thinking, perspective and analytical ability. It enables individuals to recognise their strengths and weaknesses, make informed career choices and realise their true potential, she said.

Education is a powerful tool for eradicating poverty by creating better employment opportunities and improving the economic condition of individuals, families and society, she said, adding that an educated population also contributes to stronger trade, business and overall economic growth.

Highlighting the role of education in promoting equality and empowerment, Solo said it is the key to women's empowerment and referred to government initiatives aimed at educating the girl child. She noted that girls are increasingly outperforming boys in examinations, competitive tests and employment.

The SDO said education could also help reduce crime by fostering respect for the rule of law and encouraging tolerance, open-mindedness and social harmony beyond tribal or ethnic identities.

She said education nurtures creativity, innovation, problem-solving skills and logical reasoning, enabling people to understand the world better and develop solutions to existing challenges. It also builds confidence, encourages self-reliance and motivates individuals to contribute meaningfully to society and their communities, she added.

Advising students to remain focused on their goals, Solo cautioned them against distractions such as alcohol and drug abuse, excessive partying and unhealthy lifestyles.

Describing mobile phone addiction as a growing concern among the youth, she said excessive use of social media, gaming and other digital platforms could adversely affect studies and future prospects.

"Technology has been created to help us, not to control us," she said, urging students to use technology responsibly and manage their time wisely.

Solo said consistency, diligence, responsibility and strong moral values are essential for success. She encouraged students to aspire to careers in administration, medicine, technology, business, the armed forces and policing, and urged them to become responsible citizens and role models for future generations.

The programme began with an invocation by Yevixü Swu, Pastor of A K Industrial Village Baptist Church. AASU president Hukhevi Awomi delivered the presidential address.

Niloto Achumi of A K Industrial Village and Olina Yeptho of Pimla village spoke on behalf of the successful HSLC and HSSLC candidates respectively.

Greetings were delivered by R Micheal Yanthan, vice-president of the Dimapur Naga Students' Union (DNSU), while Toshika Zhimo, General Secretary of AASU, proposed the vote of thanks.
