ENPO’s meeting remains inconclusive

Dimapur, January 25 (MExN): A crucial emergency joint consultative meeting called by the Eastern Nagaland People’s Organisation (ENPO) on January 25 remained inconclusive and will continue on Thursday, The Morung Express has learnt.

The meeting was held behind closed-door held in Dimapur and attendees refused to speak to the press waiting outside after the proceeding.

However, a source informed that members were updated with matters related to the Statehood demand.

There was no concrete decision on elections and there will be further discussion tomorrow, the source added.

The ENPO had convened the meeting with 7 tribal bodies, ENSF, ENWO, and the Talk Team (on Statehood demand) after the resolution of the Eastern Nagaland Legislator’s Union (ENLU) to participate in the upcoming Assembly Elections scheduled for February 27 appeared in the public domain on January 23.

It may be noted that several apex tribal bodies from Eastern Nagaland in recent past have reaffirmed the ENPO’s August 26, 2022 resolution declaring boycott of Parliamentary or Assembly elections if its demand for a separate state is not fulfilled. The apex bodies, accordingly, had issued directives to their members against violating the resolution.

In the electoral equation, Eastern Nagaland — covering the districts where the Chang, Konyak, Khiamniungan, Phom, Sangtam, Yimkhiung, Tikhir are dominant — have 20 seats in the State Legislative Assembly. The ENPO is the joint forum comprising the apex bodies of the seven Naga tribes.
