Extortion in Dimapur, 8 land in police net

Dimapur, May 3 (MExN): All together eight persons have landed in Dimapur Police net for various charges of extortions in the past nine days, an official release informed today.   The first arrest was made on April 25 when one person was held on charges of extortion from Sangtamtilla area, Dimapur, the Addl. Dy Commissioner of Police/PRO Dimapur stated in a press release.   He was identified as NagatoYepthomi, a resident of Thahekhu village, Dimapur. Yepthomi was caught collecting money from vehicles in the name of NSCN (IM), it said.   On April 26, two persons were also arrested from Station Road area, Dimapur on charges of extortion. The arrested persons were identified as Vikiho Aye, a resident of Niu Colony, Dimapur; and Toluka Chophy, a resident of Thahekhu Village Dimapur, the release said.   Both were reportedly ‘Khapur’ in the NSCN(R), it added.   On April 27, one person identified as Zakato Ayemi, resident of Thahekhu village, Dimapur was also arrested from Murgipatti area, Dimapur while demanding illegal taxes from business houses.   “Incriminating documents in the form of demand slips of the GDRN/FGN (NA) were seized from his possession,” the release informed.   It further said that the same day, another person identified was as Dildar Hussian of Signal Angami, Dimapur was arrested after the citizens of Residency Colony, Dimapur apprehended him while demanding “yearly taxes of some NPGs.”   Incriminating documents in the form of challans, slips, etc., were seized from his possession, it added.   According to the police, another ‘Khapur’ of the NSCN(R) identified as Akivito Awomi of Surumi Village, Zunheboto was arrested on April 28 from Diphupar area on charges of extortion.   “He was arrested while serving demand slips to the business establishments,” the PRO release said.   The final arrest was made when two persons identified as Takendar Singh, a resident of Chatteswari colony, Dimapur and Babul Ali, a resident of Burma camp were arrested from Netaji Colony, Dimapur on April 29.   “They were found collecting illegal taxes from the commercial establishments in the area,” the PRO release stated.
