Former MLA Tohanba mourns demise of P Hopong

Dimapur, January 19 (MExN): Former MLA R Tohanba has mourned the demise of P Hopong who passed away on January 15.

In a condolence message on Tuesday, Tohanba remembered late Hopong as “tolerance, patience and integrity,” under whose able and active participation, the Yimchunger Tribal Council (YTC) was formed.

Late Hopong was also elected as the first President of YTC and considered a pioneer of NNC in the Yimchunger Region, which he joined in 1954.

“He was first among all equals be it in education, Govt. DB Administration, Naga National Movement, religion and YTC, and thus termed as the Father of Yimchunger in particular and one of the pioneers of the war movement for the cause of Naga Independence. He served as Steering Committee GPRN/NSCN till his last breath,” the message stated.

Stating that his death is a great loss for the people of Yimchunger in particular and Nagas in general, Tohanba conveyed condolences to the bereaved family.
